Law of Ukraine “On State Registration of Human Genome Information” No.2391-IX (the Law) officially published to come into force on February 23, 2023
This Law is essential for the Ukrainian law enforcement system and forensic sphere.
It is important that according to the Law, state registration of human genome information could be as voluntary as compulsory.
What is the purpose of the state registration of human genome information?
After collection, the information will
help:
- in the identification of people who committed criminal offences;
- in search for the missing people;
- in recognizing unknown human corpses, their remnants, parts of human bodies;
- in identifying those who can’t provide personal information due to specific health conditions or other circumstances.
Where will the collected genome information be stored?
This information will remain in the Unified Digital Register of Information on the genetic features of a human. The respective information is one of the restricted access and is not subject to publication by the Register’s holder.
